Running pace calculator

Turn distance and elapsed time into average pace. Or use a known pace to find time or distance, in kilometres or miles.

Choose two known values

Switching units reinterprets the entered values in the selected unit. Each result also shows both units.

Use a decimal point, for example 5 or 3.1. No commas.
Minutes:seconds (30:00) or hours:minutes:seconds (1:30:00). Use total elapsed time, including stops.
Minutes:seconds per unit (6:00), or hours:minutes:seconds for paces of an hour or more.

Your inputs stay in this page’s memory. No account, storage or network requests. Reloading or leaving clears your entries.

Your calculation

Enter two values, then calculate. The example starts with 5 km in 30 minutes.

How distance, time and pace fit together

Divide time by distance

Average pace is elapsed time ÷ distance. For 5 km in 30:00, divide 1,800 seconds by 5: 360 seconds per kilometre, or 6:00 min/km.

Time = distance × pace. Distance = time ÷ pace. At 6:00 min/km, 10 km takes 1:00:00; 45:00 covers 7.5 km.

Convert kilometres and miles

1 mile = 1.609344 km exactly. Multiply seconds per km by 1.609344 for seconds per mile. A 6:00 min/km pace is about 9:39 min/mile.

Calculations use unrounded numbers. Displayed durations and paces round to the nearest whole second; distances round to 6 decimal places. A duration of an hour or more includes hours, such as 1:30:00.

A measurement to record

Average pace describes one distance and elapsed time. It is not a target, a training plan or a recommendation. Terrain, stops and other conditions affect the measurement.
