GOALIFYNOW · FIRST-WEEK PLAN

Plan your first week with a SMART goal and a habit tracker

A goal tells you where you want to end up. A habit tells you what to do today. This plan connects the two in one week with three free resources: the SMART goal worksheet, the habit tracker guide, and the printable habit tracker. You need about 20 minutes before the week starts and 10 minutes at the end.

Before the week: write the goal

Open the SMART goal worksheet and fill in each field. The example below is illustrative, not a user result. Alex is a student who wants to speak more Spanish before a trip.

Worksheet field Alex’s entry
What do you want to do? Hold a 10-minute everyday conversation in Spanish
Why does this matter to you? I want to talk with my host family on my trip without switching to English
How will you measure it? Completion: a recorded 10-minute practice call with a tutor or friend
What counts as finished? The call lasts 10 minutes and I only switch to English to check a word
Deadline 14 December 2026
How will you make it achievable? (optional) Practice speaking for 15 minutes after dinner on weekdays
Obstacles and possible responses (optional) Late classes on Thursdays: practice on the bus instead

Then create the worksheet, edit the statement until it sounds like you, and copy or print it. Choose completion when a clear done state is easier to check than a number. You do not need to invent a score.

If you are unsure whether 75 minutes a week fits, check the weekly time budget first. A plan that ignores sleep, work, and travel usually fails on the first busy day.

Choose one checkable action

The approach field is where the goal becomes a habit. Rewrite it as an action that is either done or not done on a given day. The habit tracker guide explains this in more detail.

Goal: hold a 10-minute conversation in Spanish by 14 December.

Action: “Speak Spanish 15 min after dinner · weekdays”

Done means: 15 minutes of speaking out loud, even if the lesson is unfinished.

Start with one action for the first week. Add a second only if recording the first one still feels easy.

Print the tracker

  1. Open the habit tracker and choose the current month.
  2. Replace the sample habits with your action. Each habit name can be up to 60 characters, so keep the schedule in the name, as in “Speak Spanish 15 min after dinner · weekdays.”
  3. Apply changes, then print a blank sheet or save it as PDF from your browser’s print dialog.
  4. Keep the printed worksheet and tracker together where the action happens.

You can also check off days in the browser, but the tracker keeps marks only while the page is open. For a whole week, paper or a downloaded CSV is the reliable record.

Days 1–7: a worked example

Alex starts on a Monday. Weekends are unplanned, so they are not counted.

Week 1

Mon ✓ · Tue ✓ · Wed ✓ · Thu blank · Fri ✓ · Sat – · Sun –

Four completed actions out of five planned days. On Thursday the late class ran over and the bus was too crowded to practice out loud. Alex writes one note: “Thursday: practice listening on the bus, speak at home.”

Do not add two marks on Friday to make up for Thursday. A visible gap is useful information for the review.

Day 7: review and decide

  1. Count completed actions against the days you planned, not against all seven days.
  2. Name one thing that helped and one obstacle. Alex: “phone alarm after dinner helped; Thursday clashes.”
  3. Choose to keep, shrink, reschedule, or stop the action. Alex keeps weekdays but changes Thursday to a 10-minute version.
  4. Reread the worksheet. If the deadline or finish line no longer fits, edit the worksheet rather than quietly lowering the tracker rule.

The habit tracker guide covers recovering after several missed days and a monthly review.

Keep your plan

  • Paper: print the worksheet and the tracker. Many browsers can save the print as a PDF.
  • Spreadsheet: the habit tracker downloads a CSV with one habit per row and “done” for checked dates. The worksheet can be copied as plain text into a note or document.
  • Next weeks: keep using the same printed month, or build next month’s sheet with the actions that are still useful.

What these free tools do not do

The worksheet and tracker run in your browser without an account. They do not send your entries to GoalifyNow, save them between visits, remind you, or sync across devices. Reloading or leaving the page clears them. The deadline is a date on your plan, not a reminder.

If you want goals and daily habits saved in one place, GoalifyNow offers an account-based app. Read about the existing goal and habit features or try the public habit starter without signing up. Your printed sheets and downloads are not imported into it automatically.
